India's emerging automotive cybersecurity standard, derived from UN R155.
AIS 189 is India's Automotive Industry Standard for approval of vehicles with regards to Cyber Security and Cyber Security Management System. It is India's domestic derivation of UNECE Regulation No. 155, drafted by ARAI's Automotive Industry Standards Committee, and supports vehicle cybersecurity and CSMS readiness for type approval. Final implementation timelines depend on MoRTH gazette notifications and may evolve — engineering review and the relevant approval authority (ARAI / iCAT) remain responsible for submission decisions.
