UDS

Also known as: Unified Diagnostic Services, ISO 14229

Unified Diagnostic Services (ISO 14229) — standard ECU diagnostic and reprogramming protocol.

UDS defines services for ECU identification, security access (0x27), authentication (0x29), routine control (0x31), reading and writing data, fault management, and ECU reprogramming (0x34/0x36/0x37). It is the protocol behind workshop tools and OEM end-of-line testers, and the foundation that secure diagnostics builds on.
