Secure diagnostics applies authentication (UDS 0x29 or 0x27 security access), authorisation, and audit logging to diagnostic services that can read sensitive data, write calibrations, or unlock ECU functions. Without it, a workshop tool — or a connected attacker — can perform privileged operations on the bus.
