EVITA

European-funded research framework that defined the EVITA full / medium / light HSM profiles.

The EVITA project produced the canonical reference profiles for automotive HSMs. EVITA Full HSMs target high-assurance use cases such as vehicle-to-vehicle communication; EVITA Medium covers in-vehicle networking and key storage; EVITA Light is the minimum hardware crypto helper. Most commercial automotive HSMs are described relative to these profiles.

Why it matters

EVITA profiles are the shared vocabulary for automotive HSM capability — when a supplier says 'EVITA Medium,' it sets expectations for key storage and in-vehicle crypto. Matching the profile to the threat model during TARA avoids discovering late that the hardware cannot support the cybersecurity controls the design assumed.
